PUBS WORTH BEARING IN MIND

We each have our own ideas as to what constitutes an interesting pub and we cannot guarantee that you will agree with these offerings but that is a chance you must take. Pubs come and go, landlords and chefs change and staff on different shifts might not all be as welcoming. Our definition of a good pub is an interesting building in a good location with friendly and efficient staff providing good products at fair prices. A nice garden helps as well; not a lot to ask really.

We cannot check for recent changes, and you are advised to cross reference to any of the many excellent commercial guides that are available.  Our sympathies, if you visit one of these suggestions and are disappointed.

Whilst every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information provided we cannot accept any responsibility for any errors inadvertently included.

This list includes those pubs which members have said they found good and can be used as a guide if looking for a break mid-walk or when you finish.  If you find any other pub you think worthy of bringing to the attention of other members please let us know at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Similarly if you try one of these and have a problem also advise us.

If you are walking in a group please remember that if you wish to eat your own food in a pub or pub garden you should ask the landlord and at least buy a drink. There are walking groups which use the facilities and take up seating space whilst spending only coppers. As most landlords think of groups of walkers as Ramblers members, our reputation suffers even though they are probably not Ramblers groups. We can at least set a good example.

These pubs are mostly in rural areas or on the edge of open countryside as this is where most members walk for pleasure. Not all offer everything we might want but from reports are well worth using if nearby. There are no doubt other, fairly good pubs convenient to a walk, which are all very welcome but these listed pubs have, for one reason or another, been highly recommended by at least one member.
